The Internet is essential in 21st century life for education, business and social interaction. As children move up through the school their access to various types of technology increases and it stands to reason that their exploration and curiosity increases too. The positives of the digital world overwhelmingly outweigh the negatives but children, schools and parents all need to be aware of various online risks.

In Church of England schools, where pupils and staff come from all faiths and none, religious education (RE) is a highly valued academic subject that enables understanding of how religion and beliefs affect our lives. At the heart of RE in church schools is the teaching of Christianity and opportunity for pupils to learn about other faiths and world-views.
At Yardley Gobion,
Pupils can expect that a Church school RE curriculum will engage and challenge them through an exploration of core concepts and questions. They can expect Church schools to provide meaningful and informed dialogue with a range of religions and worldviews. There should be
opportunities for them to understand the role of foundational texts, beliefs, rituals, and practices and how they help form identity in a range of religions and worldviews. Pupils should explore how these may change in different times, places and cultures.
Religious Education in Church of England Schools - A Statement of Entitlement 2019
As a maintained school we have a legal requirement to follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus for RE for Northamptonshire. This ensures that we cover all the required elements of RE learning, across several world faiths, with a larger focus being on Christianity.
We use Understanding Christianity to plan and deliver our Christian units of learning.
Understanding Christianity is a resource to support the teaching of Christianity in religious education in all schools.
- Develops pupils' own thinking and understanding of Christianity.
- Explores the significant theological concepts within Christianity as part of developing pupils wider religious, theological and cultural literacy.
- Supports teachers in developing their own knowledge and understanding of Christianity theology to be able to teach with confidence.
We also make use of the Peterborough Diocese RE Curriculum, which provides with even further support to ensure our RE lessons are times for enquiry, enjoyment and ever deepening understanding of faith and believers.
We ensure that time is given for RE, above that required by law. We enhance our curriculum with termly World Faith Days, whcih give us chance to look at certain aspects of faith in more detail as a whole school. Please see the overview of this years days below.

You can also see our Knowledge Organisers for RE below. There is one for each of the world faiths that the children will be discovering. The Knowledge Organisers highlight the key learning that we want the children to understand from their own investigations and considerations.
Our whole school community comes together everyday to join in Collective Worship. Our worship is based upon Christian Values, chosen by the school community, and key events in the Christian calendar. Worship is led by all teaching staff, Rev’d Diane, our Parish Vicar, other Christian visitors and, most importantly, by our children. A lead group, the Worship Team, consult with pupils in the school before planning and leading worship regularly.

Mrs O’Rourke (Mondays and Tuesdays)
We are very lucky to have Mrs Lambert as our Teaching Assistant to help us.
We enjoy practical learning in maths, as it helps us to understand what we are working on. We also like to do lots of practical science.
In our class we learn about mindfulness and meditation to help us relax and to help us to understand each other and ourselves.
In our literacy we love listening to and reading stories, then acting them out. We then use these ideas in our own work.
Our topic work this term is about ‘Extreme Survival’. We will be learning to:
- How to us a range of maps and atlases to locate hot and cold areas
- How to explain why some areas are very hot and very cold
- Describing what life is like in those places (in terms of people, animals and vegetation)
- Consider how people and animals adapt to their environment to survive
· The importance of shelter, food and clean water for survival
We know that our faith is the central focus of all we do at school. It defines our common aims and objectives and provides us with a framework for working together and loving one another. Our Vision statement begins with the line:
‘Using the talents God gave us to achieve and shine”
Our vision statement has been created by the pupils, governors and staff and is supported by a Biblical quote;
God's voice thunders in marvellous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain, “Be a mighty downpour”. Job 37:5-6
We truly believe that everyone within our community has something to add to us as a group and, with God’s guidance, we will recognise and nurture talents to make us stronger together.
The Governors and staff believe that Christianity is an integral part of every aspect of our daily lives at Yardley Gobion Primary School. In our last SIAMS inspection report it says;
‘Christian values permeate the school and are central to its being’
Visitors and inspectors have recognised the positive impact of our strong Christian ethos on our learners and in our 2020 SIAMS Inspection our school was judged to be GOOD.
Most important to us is that Christian values underpin all of our learning, and enable our children to become caring, respectful and thoughtful members of our community. We actively encourage the children to uphold our values at all times and we have school values on display, both in classrooms and in the hall. Parents and visitors to our school recognise that our strong values help to nurture the wellbeing, safety and confidence of our children.
Our Collective Worship is planned around our core Christian Vision, an outline of which can be found on our website. Worship plays an important part in our school day. We aim for worship to be integral to our work within school, rather than stand-alone sessions.
RE is taught in discrete sessions, and our children have access to a broad and balanced RE curriculum. Children are given the opportunity to explore inter-faith values and appreciate cultural diversity. We enhance our RE curriculum with extra units of work based on ‘Understanding Christianity’, and we have regular “World Faith” celebration days that highlight the importance of understanding all faiths, recognising our common values and appreciating the diversity of humanity. In 2015,and again in 2018 we received the Silver RE Quality Mark award recognising the high quality of the RE curriculum and teaching in school. The assessor speaks extensively to the children about their experiences and was very impressed with how mature and sophisticated our pupils understanding of the importance of religion was. The assessor stated;
The pupils were able to explain to me effective and creative links between RE lessons and other curriculum subjects, demonstrating an understanding of how their religion is part of their everyday lives
Within the school day, the children have regular opportunities for prayer and reflection. We have a dedicated reflection space, with inspirational artwork, created by the children, that offers a place for prayer throughout the day.
The children come together to say prayers at lunchtime and at the end of the day. Each class has a prayer space for use throughout the day.
Our school hall is the focus of our worship and has displays that reflect our most current focus. Each classroom displays a cross and our school prayer.
