A “learning council” is a group of individuals within a school that meets to share knowledge and ideas around effective learning in order to accomplish two major goals: Communicating the existing learning and developing new and improved learning ideas.
At Yardley Gobion CE Primary our Learning Council two representatives from each year group, from Year 3 to Year 6 and representatives for Key Stage 1, from the Year 2 Class.
Mrs Hooper (Assistant Head Teacher) attends the meeting to support the councillors and to answer any questions regarding school policy and procedure. She facilitates the meetings but does not lead them; the older pupils are developing their chairing skills.
Our Key Aims for 2018/19:
- Establish Class councils to feed into the Pupil Council
- Identify areas of learning that we would like to improve – eg. Curriculum Themes
- Take part in analysis of learning in school – eg. Appraisal of Collective Worship, feedback on new approaches to maths teaching.
